Website Development by international students
The client of this service design project is a manufacturer of water filter technology. Now, the company website is directed more at search engine optimization (SEO) but a good website achieves more goals than just SEO. Nowadays students have grown up with the internet and are experts in a natural way of using it. This is where Laurea University of Applied Science P2P model comes into play. The student team including six Finnish, one Spanish and one German member is working on this international project.
What is this group working on more precisely?
The main goal is to develop the company’s website using service design. For the beginning of the project the project team decided to do a survey for potential customers of the client and a survey at the start and after the development of websites. Based on these results, in the beginning it should be clearer what the expectations of potential customers regarding a user-friendly website are. The knowledge of how to improve a website comes from a student’s past experiences and two literature related theory bases. The actual implementation of all ideas and improvements will be the core of the project and worked hand in hand with the client. As mentioned, a survey after the development will measure how the website improves in comparison to the beginning.
How does the project group profit from working in an international team?
The project profits from the Finnish students because the website is based on Finnish language. The English language can be also chosen by entering the website, with a few less content. So continuous improvement of English language is also an advantageous matter. Other benefits are learning about each other’s working methods and type of communication.
Are there obstacles by working interculturally?
Different countries have different expectations regarding a website could be thinkable but if it comes to the matter of needed information and how a website should be designed these days in a globalized world, the project group has the same vision. And because website design is a global topic in English language, there is no possible language barrier. In a group with 8 members, it is always possible the explain the most detailed trans of thoughts even in English. Starting in 2020, Covid has drifted our working lives besides the continuous digitalization more into online work, which brings pros and cons. Intercultural projects profit more from a get to know in a personal way at the campus. This project team mixes presence meetings and online meetings in a pleasant way.
