Green finance in the game – the first part

In August 2021, we started a green financing project. In our project, we design and develop an educational game for high school students. The aim of the game is to train young people to invest sustainably. Our project team consists of five students; two exchange students (from Germany and France) and three Laurea students. With this team, we develop a game created by a previous project team.

Last spring, another project team designed an educational game (Seppo-game) on green financing. The game is for high school students. The goal of our project team this fall is to make the previous game more competitive. In addition to green financing, the game should include information on investing and financing.

How do we reach our goal?

To be able to develop even better from the previous game, we need students to help us. During the project, we visit several times to hold sessions for high school students. The purpose of the sessions is to map out the target group of the game. Students give us feedback on an old game that helps us develop it. In addition to creating the game, our project also includes lessons for high school students. We include this in the service design sessions we attend in high school to hold. In addition, it is important to gain a broader knowledge of green finance and investment. Not forgetting service design and teaching students.


Currently, one service design session is already behind us. From the first session, we got a lot of information about the students and what kind of group it is. We put the students to play the old Seppo game, during which we made observations about their reactions. Students also wrote ´´pains and gains´´ in the table what they would like from the new game and what they would not. In addition to this, we used a typical high school student tool to find out what kind of learners and personalities the group contains. We follow students learning through questionnaires. This helps us evaluate our own activities and teaching and highlights students development. These service design tools help us develop an even better game. The next meeting is in two weeks, when it’s our first teaching session. We are going to talk about investing. We are already looking forward to creating the game!
