If You have hard time in trying to imagine what life would be as an undocumented person, I recommend taking a journey through the movie camera lens. Let me show You how You can make yourself closer to it.
Sin Nombre
This movie takes You into a dangerous, brutal and eye-opening journey through Central America and Mexico. Sin Nombre (English: “Nameless”) is a 2009 Mexican-American thriller movie written and directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga. It tells a tale about a Honduran girl trying to immigrate to the United States, and a boy caught up in the violence of gang life. Their lives get entwined along the journey.
I can guarantee that after seeing this movie You will think differently about undocumented people and the tough choices they have to make in their lives in very desperate and hard situations. Not to mention, You will have more puzzled views on the immigration situation in the US and on Trump’s agenda.
Dirty Pretty Things
This movie tale is located in London and it depicts very lively the situations and exploitation of the undocumented people living there. This all happens in Europe, close to us and is every day life for others. The story tells about Okwe, a kind Nigerian doctor, and Senay, a Turkish chambermaid who two work at the same West London hotel. The hotel is run by Senor “Sneaky” and is a place where dirty business appears. When Mr Okwe uncovers something far more sinister than just a common crime, the story dives into darker direction.
You can only imagine what You would do in these people’s shoes. Though choices! Again. I warmly recommend this journey to view our lovely Europe from a different angle.
The Visitor
This one is a very heart-felt, humane story of a life-changing encounter between an old professor and two undocumented people whose lives collide in US. When Mr Walter’s college sends him to Manhattan to attend a conference, Walter is surprised to find a young couple has taken up residence in his apartment when he returns. Victims of a real estate scam, Syrian Tarek (Haaz Sleiman) and Senegalese Zainab (Danai Gurira) have nowhere to go. Walter reluctantly allows the couple to stay with him and this is where their mutual journey starts.
The Visitor-movie trip is easier to watch than the previous ones since it has warmer, drama story aspect to immigration. It is a dramatic story though and explains in a very humanistic way the challenges undocumented people face in the foreign country.
I wish You all an extremely educating and empathy-filled movie journey with these options. These totally did the the trick for me! The world does not look the same anymore in my eyes.
