The first weeks in the P2P-model from the perspective of an exchange student

Despite the fact that we are living in a worldwide pandemic and Covid-19 attends our daily life, we exchange students were allowed to enter Finland in the first days of January. Shortly after, the semester started and so did the projects of the P2P-model at Laurea University in Hyvinkää.

After an introduction week and explanations about the new teaching model, our project “International Benchmarking & Partner Search in Event Business” started with the Pre-Brief. Here we were introduced for the first time to our lecturer Aapo Hollanti and the other team members. The project group consists of 5 Finnish students and three exchange students from Germany. Unfortunately, due to the restrictions of the government, we are unable to meet in person and so all the meetings take place online using Microsoft Teams. Especially for us exchange students, it took a few meetings to understand all the functions and applications of this new software, but it is very useful as all the information can be shared quickly among the group.

One week after the Pre-Brief was the actual Brief with the client Kokouspiste Oy. We were instructed in our tasks by the CEO Kaisa Kangasmäki and her colleague Katja Mansikkaniemi. The company is specialised in organising meetings, conferences and, most recently, virtual events. Now they want to find a business partner in Germany, Sweden, Denmark and the UK.

After the brief, we discussed everything in the group and distributed the different tasks. We decided that in a team of two people we would specialise in one country by looking for possible cooperation partners. With another German exchange student, I was assigned to search for potential event companies in Germany. The research was quite simple and we were able to come up with a list of companies including a lot of details.

Soon we presented the first results to our client. After almost two months in the project, the companies in every country have been selected for a possible cooperation, the emails for a first enquiry are prepared and next week we’ll send the emails to the potential partners.

In our second blog post, which we will publish at the beginning of May, you will find out how our project is continuing and whether a cooperation has been established.
